Dr Dvori Blumenau,
PhD - Professional Bio
Professional Background
- I hold a PhD in Psychology from the University of Johannesburg.
- My doctoral research focused on healing adolescent girls from depression.
- I developed a useful and effective treatment model called the SHIP Model, for treating depression, anxiety, insecurity, anger and trauma.
- I have many years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families with a high success rate.
- I practised in Johannesburg for many years, then in Israel. I now live and practice in South Africa.
Therapeutic Approach
- I offer a structured, goal-oriented and results-focused therapeutic process.
- I integrate a wide range of modalities according to the client’s needs and preferences.
One of my areas of expertise and PASSION is healing The Inner Child. - Clients often experience positive emotional shifts early in the therapeutic process.
Psychological modalities I use in therapy:
- CBT
- DBT
- EMDR
- IFS
- Somatic Experiencing through the institute of Dr Peter Levine
- Ego State Therapy
- Clinical Hypnotherapy
- Play Therapy
- Creative Expressive Art Therapy including dance therapy, music therapy, enactment, clay work, collage, storytelling and painting
- EFT Tapping
- Dance therapy
Emotional Assessments for Children and Teens
- I offer deep emotional assessments, which take about two to three sessions, online and in person, for children and teens from the age of 5 on.
- These assessments explore the child’s subconscious and reveal clearly what is troubling them, which may include worries, internal conflict, insecurities, difficult relationships and limiting beliefs, as well as their assets and strengths.
- After the assessment, I provide clear and practical feedback to parents that helps them understand the underlying issues beneath the child’s mood or behaviour.
- I then offer step-by-step parental guidance with practical tools for the parents, the child and the extended system (school, extended family). Parents usually walk out happy and with a sense of clarity.
- Parents regularly describe these sessions as eye-opening and transformative.
- We then discuss if there is a need for me or for someone else to continue therapy with the child or the adolescent.

Personal Background
I was born in Israel and I am a mother of five. I now live and practice in South Africa, where I continue to develop my work and my writing. I am currently working on a series of children’s books that focus on emotional development as well as a self-help book for adults based on my SHIP Model. I am deeply passionate about the therapeutic process and feel it is a genuine privilege to walk alongside people on their journey of healing, growth and emotional evolvement, especially since I had to work extensively on healing my own inner child. My work is based on many years of study, personal experience, and working with over 2,500 clients whom I have worked with over the years.
I sincerely believe in every person’s ability to transform and that this transformation should not last over an extended period.
